Every BarCamp participants (“barcampers”) are encouraged to presents their topics of interest and share ideas and comments with other barcampers.

This event will be a collaboration of Mekong ICT Camp and the local BarCamp Chiang Mai. We plan to have this kind of collaboration with local BarCamps in next Mekong ICT Camps as well, to stimulate and connect local hacker- and developer communities in the region. Bringing Mekong campers to local BarCamps, that’s why we call it a “plus Mekong”.

What is BarCamp?

BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.

It is an international network of user generated conferences (called “unconferences”) – open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants. The first BarCamps focused on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats. The format has also been used for a variety of other topics, including public transit, health care, and political organizing.

While loosely structured, there are rules at BarCamp. All attendees are encouraged to present or facilitate a session. Everyone is also asked to share information and experiences of the event, both live and after the fact, via public web channels including (but not limited to) blogging, photo sharing, social bookmarking, twittering, wiki-ing, and IRC. This open encouragement to share everything about the event is in deliberate contrast to the “off the record by default” and “no recordings” rules at many private invite-only participant driven conferences.

Try Wikitravel and Lonely Planet for more info.

We recommend you to stay overnight, as there will be a walking street near Tha Pae gate on Sunday. The walking street is probably the largest continuing walking street held in Thailand.

Sponsors

Chiang Mai Univesity will provide us the venue for virtually free of charge – big thanks to the Facutly of Fine Arts!.

Still, we need support for equipments to run the camp. The major missing items now are wireless internet connection and routers, drinks and snacks during the day, video projectors (borrowing), stationaries, and organizing hands :)

If you feel like to sponsor the camp, please direct the message to arthit (at) gmail.com.
