“We Come In Peace” – Call for Participation in the 27th Chaos Communication Congress.

We invite you to participate at the 27th Chaos Communication Congress, focused on advancing the state of the art in hacking, making, and new perspectives on politics and privacy in the information age. Proposals of about 300 words for talks lasting either 30 or 45 minutes should be sent to our Pentabarf submission system by October 9, 2010. A notice of acceptance or decline will be sent out until November 9, 2010 by e-mail.

The Chaos Communication Congress is an annual meeting of the international hacker scene, organized by the Chaos Computer Club. The congress features a variety of lectures and workshops on technical and political issues. The theme and details of the 27th congress can be found here.

Submission deadline: Saturday, October 9, 2010.

2010 Camp Timetable

Timetable for 2010 Camp is now available [pdf]. While we say it’s a draft version, the actual one, that we going to have during June 7-12, will be more or less identical to this version.

Noted that while in the timetable stated that we have three tracks (information-management, communication-advocacy, technology-infrastructure) in three rooms, this 2010 Camp will have one spare room for any ad-hoc session. So in total we will actually have four rooms, three planned and one ad-hoc.

As always emphasized, we encouraged everybody to present their ideas or host their own sessions during Mekong ICT Camp and also in BarCamp Chiang Mai a day after. Some of the BarCampers always registered are include those from Sierra Leone, Hong Kong, Kolkata, Yangon, Hamburg, Knaresborough, and Chittagong. This is YOUR international chance.

Camp Confirmed: June 7-12 in Chiang Mai

We confirmed the plan for Mekong ICT Camp.

The Camp will be held on June 7-12, 2010, in Chiang Mai.

Situation in Bangkok is calmed down. Chiang Mai is safe. Camp venue and transportation are unaffected. We continue our plan for the camp — no change.

With a confirmation from the venue, SCB Training Center in Chiang Mai,
we now confirmed the date for Mekong ICT Camp 2010 and BarCamp Mekong 2010.

Mekong ICT Camp 2010: June 7-11 (Monday-Friday) at SCB Training Center.

BarCamp Mekong/Chiang Mai: June 12 (Saturday) in Chiang Mai city.

UPDATE: Participants from outside Mekong is very welcome

With a lot of requests, we decided to make the application criteria more open geographically. Participants are now welcome from EVERY countries and territories. We believe that experiences from participants outside Mekong will further benefits Mekong campers.

On proportion, about 60 participants will be selected from Mekong (the number is unchanged), another additional 5-10 will be selected from outside.

On sponsorship, FULL sponsorships are available for people from Mekong sub-region (areas in Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam). This also includes people who are originally from elsewhere but currently working in projects that related to developments of Mekong.

Small numbers of PARTIAL sponsorships (camp fee and accommodation, but not travel cost) are available for people from outside Mekong.

Application deadline is March 31, 2010.
